In a world filled with distractions everywhere and an endless demand of our attention both online and offline, it has become very easy to really lose sight of what actually matters. However, I say this a lot and I’ll say it again: the only two things you truly own are your time and your thoughts. Time is the ultimate equalizer, and how we choose to spend it shapes our lives and defines our success.

Yesterday, I just noted the launch of the Renegade Program, and I figure we shortly discuss this topic (Power of Time) as we walk this journey together. I want you to realize how you can embrace the power of time, set your priorities, and unleash your true potential. This is what is going to allow you to prepare and embrace each day with a smile and conquer those dreams.

The Power of Time

The most valuable thing we have on this planet is time, and once it’s gone, it’s gone forever. The idea that time is ephemeral (or in other words ticking away) becomes more and more real to us as we get older. It’s a realization that most people do not make until they hid their later years. However, with each passing second time is fleeting. It’s like sand slipping through our fingers, showing us how important it is to seize each opportunity. The problem with that phrase is that it is easier said than done. I don’t think any of us walks through our day counting seconds or worries continuously about time. We just take it for granted. Like getting up in the morning. Yet I want people to be more aware of time.

Time is beautiful because it is impartial. It doesn’t make distinctions based on background, wealth, or age. We all have the same 24 hours in a day; what differs is how we choose to use them. Accepting this idea is the first step in realizing our full potential.

Consequently, realizing the worth of time brings about a dramatic change of perspective. That is the awareness I want to achieve. We begin to value every moment as an opportunity, a chance to advance, gain knowledge, and have a beneficial effect as we come to realize the power of time. I believe that time becomes a catalyst for personal development and a gateway to success (however you want to define or measure success).

If we can grasp this basic concept and appreciate the time we have on our beautiful planet, then I believe more people would strive for purposeful progression instead of all the mental haywire we see in society today.

Setting Priorities

The basics come down to priorities. Everything in life is intangibly ranked when it comes to the usage of time. It’s crucial to learn the are of setting priorities. We run the risk of getting overwhelmed by the tide of meaningless activities and daily diversions if we don’t have clear priorities. I have been there, too often then I would like to admit. And that is fine. Don’t get down on yourself if you feel like you’ve just wasted a day and accomplished nothing. Life is complex – full of emotions. The good thing is that priority setting is something that can be learned and with a few simple strategies, I believe you can regain control and focus on what truly matters.

Firstly, start by identifying your core values and long-term goals. In today’s society, with all the odd choices we are given, this has become difficult. Many people do not have that north star to follow. That answer to “What do you really hope to accomplish?” By aligning your priorities with your passions and aspirations, you create a roadmap for success. You can make thoughtful decisions about how you spend your time thanks to this clarity. Having that clarity is the foundation of time utilization. This does not mean you focus solely on this in life. However, it allows you to make deliberate choices about how you spend your time.

Secondly, embrace the power of saying “no.” In my early days in the corporate world, this was something I did not know how to do. I felt like I needed to do it all, whatever the cost. And it’s simple to get caught up in the trap of trying to please everyone and taking on jobs that don’t fit our priorities. Especially as a young adult who just came into the work force. However, if you can learn to do this, and I don’t mean saying “no” to everything. There should be a good reason behind it, however, saying “no” to the unimportant enables you to say “yes” to the truly meaningful opportunities that come your way. You may need that little bit of courage to do so, yet I believe that it’s a liberating practice that empowers you to reclaim your time and make progress towards your goals. Sometimes, this is easier said then done, especially when your boss asks you to do something. Yet learning how to maneuver such situations are only going to benefit you in life. I really believe the only reason people can’t do this is fear. I know that was one of my drivers. Potentially losing your job or falling in disfavor, however, it is something that needs to be done.

And saying no is one of the most difficult lessons you’ll learn in the business world, especially when it comes to time management. We’ve been conditioned through schooling and education to think that being busy is a badge of honor and that accepting every invitation (saying yes) will lead to success. However, the truth is that refusing can be just as effective.

By declining an offer that doesn’t fit your priorities, you not only make time for other things that are more important, but you’re also establishing boundaries and safeguarding your mental and emotional health. Although it’s simple to get into the trap of constantly attempting to satisfy everyone, the truth is that you’ll never be able to manage it all. It’s okay that way.

Mastering Productivity

With your priorities in order, it’s time to take your productivity to new heights. Productivity isn’t just about working harder; it’s about working smarter and optimizing the use of your time. By adopting effective strategies, you can accomplish more while enjoying a sense of balance in your life. In one of my last roles and something I come across frequently in discussions is that its about “presence” – just being there. Whether your productive or how productive is secondary, or so it seems. Productivity can mean you getting something done in 3 hours whereas it might take a colleague a full 8 hour work day. The problem in the business world is that in a managers mind an imbalance occurs. This goes across many organizations. Failure of management, period.

Don’t be afraid to try different things until you find the (or a) method that works best for you. There are a ton of methods and tools available that can help you accomplish more in less time. For example, the Pomodoro Technique, which divides your workday into 25-minute segments with brief pauses in between, is a well-known productivity technique. This can provide you a sense of satisfaction each time a task is accomplished while also assisting you in maintaining focus and preventing burnout.

Prioritizing your most critical chores first thing in the morning, when your energy and focus are at their highest, is another excellent method. This might assist you in finishing the most important tasks before the day’s distractions begin to mount. There are also a ton of tools and applications out there to keep you organized and on track, from time-tracking apps to to-do list apps like Todoist and Trello. Whatever approach you use, the most important thing is to settle on and stay with a plan that works for you.

The Importance of Taking Breaks and Rest

It’s simple to overlook the value of relaxation and rest in our effort to maximize our time. Our society extols the virtues of hustling culture and perpetual motion. You hear people who are extremely successful in monetary terms like Bezos and Musk, never stopping and working endless hours. Truth be told, it’s good that way – for them. I am the same. I worked hours, even days without really taking a break. I would hustle hard. That allowed me to build rapport, move up the ladder, and do a lot of things. However, the truth is that resting and taking breaks are essential for your general health and productivity. You need to know when to pull the brakes.

You’re more prone to experience burnout if you push yourself too hard without giving yourself time to recover. Just like in sports. Your energy levels will drastically decline, and you won’t be able to concentrate or come to wise conclusions. On the other hand, you’ll discover that you have more energy, creativity, and passion to complete your duties when you give yourself regular pauses and prioritize self-care. Trust me on this. The mind is extremely powerful. Most managers think they need to be on the keyboard sending emails around the clock, so as to wear this “badge of honor” that society has created. However, it’s a bunch of BS, because it’s not for everyone, and that is completely fine.

Therefore, don’t be scared to plan breaks into your day. Spend time relaxing by going for little walks, doing deep breathing exercises, or doing other enjoyable things. Keep in mind that taking breaks increases your productivity and well-being rather than wasting time.

Embracing the Present Moment

It’s simple to forget to live in the present moment when living in our fast-paced environment and always pursuing future ambitions. The only real time we have, though, is right now. The future is unclear and the past has passed. Therefore, why not take advantage of the present?

You’ll discover that you’re able to appreciate life’s basic joys when you learn to be fully present in each moment. Being present enables you to completely experience and appreciate the richness of life, whether it’s taking a morning cup of coffee, spending quality time with loved ones, or engaging in an activity you’re passionate about. A pivotal moment in my life versus my career was when my first son was born. That awakened an instinct in me that, not only do I want to be successful, I want to be successful on my own terms so that I can be in the here and now with my family.

A fantastic method to develop present is by engaging in mindfulness exercises. Every day, set aside some time to sit quietly, concentrate on your breathing, and pay attention to your body’s and mind’s experiences. You’ll discover that by focusing on the here and now, you’re better able to put distractions aside and give your all to whatever it is you’re doing.

Therefore, make an effort to live in the present. I know that, depending on life’s circumstances, it may be hard, especially when you are struggling financially, however begin to embrace the positive aspects of life. You may actually make the most of your time, discover fulfillment, and experience joy here and in the now. Trust me.

In the grand scheme of things, time is the most valuable resource we have. It’s the one thing that, once lost, we can never get back. Therefore, it’s crucial that we set time priorities, increase our productivity, and make decisions that are consistent with our objectives and principles. Keep in mind that you are in control of how you spend your time. You may design a life that is satisfying and meaningful by being purposeful, saying no when necessary, taking breaks, and living in the now. All those choices are yours, no matter how much you may want to point the finger at someone or something else.

I want this post to spur some thought around time. I can give you a massive list of things we can chew through, but I believe that with these five things ticking in your mind, you’ll be on the journey to embracing the power of time. So, set your priorities, optimize your productivity, and most of all – enjoy the journey. The clock is ticking, but with the right mindset and actions, both you and I can make every second count.
