One thing I often try to do, as much as possible, is spend my time doing the the stuff I really love. In my corporate job that means taking responsibility and thinking ahead in bringing my team the opportunity to provide personal solutions and inspire passion through their individual aspirations. What they make of it is their own responsibility. I love doing that. I love helping people grow to see their own potential.

In my leisure time I love involving myself in lots of things, from growing my company to reading and investing in stocks to personally training our dogs. If you are fully passionate about something, your likely already one step ahead of everyone else. That does not mean you will succeed in your ventures however you’ll be more engaged in various aspects of the activity than doing something you could care less about. In my previous post around passion one thing I note is

[blockquote source=”Hermann Kratochwill”]…Doing all these things doesn’t come from sitting around. It has been fueled by my passion for business, for risk taking, for entrepreneurship, for my passion to create, my passion for a challenge, my passion to start something incredible and see it grow.[/blockquote]

Doing stuff you really love is key to your well being and eventual success. Let me give you three recent experiences that I want to share with you from a consultation with a client, the discussion with a friend and the last being a client as well.:

1. A client of mine, also with an entrepreneurial mindset contacted me to find out if I would be interested in investing or even endorsing into his new business. The business was however not something I necessarily believed in and I had no interest in the space at all. I declined both the investment and endorsement opportunity.

2. I approached a very good friend around an idea I had been pondering for a very long time. Only never wanted to invest anything until a recent event sparked interest to actually review, discuss and bring forth the idea to him. Its something we both love and are passionate about. The result is the beginning of a new venture.

3. In this case I approached a client of mine from whom I utilize services for our dogs, noting that I would like to rebuild their web presence as well, free. Why, because the time investment on my behalf will translate into further sales for my company as it will stimulate further client queries. I love building websites hence this is something within my scope that I do not mind doing.

So don’t get involved in things which you

don’t have any experience in,
are not passionate about,
or your contributions would not justify the investment for yourself.

Do things you really love. Learn to say “no”, even to family and friends. In the first case above I would have probably gotten involved, but contemplating the tru opportunities, I realize in those situations that I do my best work why I apply my time and energy to stuff I really love. When I am being forced to do certain things, my contribution often ends up below par and I am unhappy.

I pick out the things that I love. That is my initial filter, everything else like money and execution come into play after that.

What are things you love and hate doing?
