Those that know me know that I love sports. Regardless of the physical activity that needed to be carried out, if it was a challenge to push my body and mind than I was on board. To me, life is very similar in that regard. I speak a lot about motivation, hard work, ethics, entrepreneurship and so forth and I need to live my principles out on a daily basis in my corporate job. When you look at your life as a whole, is not a sport? TO me it is. It’s not just a game because;1. Life and sports both have rules, regulations, code of ethics, behaviors, etc.

2. We feel good when we are ahead in life and sports. We usually have fun, but when we are behind we feel lost and get bored.

3. To do well in either, you need to work hard, be determined and at times have that pinch of luck.

4. In both numerous people all contribute to the success or failure of an individual and those who surround that individual. be it coaches, mentors, teammates, parents, friends, etc.

5. Last but not least, in both there is one thing that increases our chances of being successful and winning – scoring and achieving goals.

Goals

Having goals in life are incredibly important. I often sit down with people to discuss where they want to go and what they are doing to get there. Often the vision is quite blurry or the answer is “I do not know.” Now don’t misunderstand me. That is okay from my perspective but you need to engage on your development and begin setting goals that set you up for success or failure so that you can learn to narrow down your path. Those goals in life, and in sports, give us direction and allow us to plan a course of action.

Here is an example: Imagine you play on a soccer team and logically the goal is to win the leagues championship. However you cannot win the championship without first winning enough games to make the playoffs, which than leads us to the fact that you can’t win games unless you put the ball in the opponents net, and you can’t put the ball into the opponents net unless you learn the necessary skills to dribble, pass and shoot the ball and have a game plan.

That’s quite straight-forward, no?

To me, life is exactly the same.

1. You need to know what you want

2. After that you need to know what it takes to get you there

3. Finally, you need to learn the necessary skills in order to do exactly that and have a plan.

Not knowing what you want, as I mention above and doing nothing about it puts you in the deadzone. There is no plan, there is no action and ultimately life becomes monotonous.

My encouragement to you is to get past this part. It can be difficult but think about such things. If you are just wasting away each day without a goal or a plan, than you really need to start engaging your thought process and set direction. Discover yourself!

My Goals

Just to spur some thought on your end I want to share some of my goals with you. Note how my goals in life are broken down into smaller goals which become part of my overall plan. My hope is that through this I may spur some thoughts for you on how to break down your goals in life and set direction. Perhaps throughout my blog you may learn from my accomplishments and failures and may just take away one piece of advice from my journey in life.

I think you get the point, no? This is an exercise I learned from one of my mentors when it came to planning out finances. What are my goals and then develop and break down those goals by narrowing and setting direction as time became closer to present day. I hope this makes sense.
I hope that you give good thought into your plans for the future and what your goals may be. Perhaps you want to discuss them or bounce some ideas off someone. I’d be glad to step in. Contact me by any means via email, or social media and lets sit down and discuss. Keep rocking!

P.S. – as you may have noted above some of my goals incorporate my significant other. It is vital in any relationship to discuss all of your goals together with your loved ones. If you don’t than at some point you will come across something that the other person didn’t know that will cause friction regardless of how long you have been together. Communicate!
